Sugar...

It’s one of the most sought-after substances known to man and yet we tend to ignore the effects that sugar can have on us. We all have the right to know that sugar can lead to us having a stroke or a heart attack when we’re older but if given up that is preventable..

Sugar and my consumption of it is probably why i am like this today although what i smoked was, i’m sure, a contributory factor. I only have myself to blame and I just wished i’d had more sense than to do what i did.

I’m on a diet of no sugar which is why i had three cups of water plus very plain porridge for breakfast. Today is the second day of the diet although i plan to make it a permanent one. I’ll keep you in touch with what happens.

  1. I take my h at off to you, Terry. I have to have sugar on porridge, even if it's just a teaspoon.
I have been sugar free for the last 8 days, I was cranky on day three so watch out!

    1. Thanks Kylie. I have felt the mood swings but expect it. The cravings are the same as when I pcked the fags up.

  2. I, too, try not to consume sugar. But, that does not include fruit. Since I am trying not to eat dairy or grains or sugar, what would I eat if it were not for eggs, meat, veggies and fruit?

  3. I'm trying to avoid sugar too. You can really get addicted to it. Good luck with your change of diet. It will be very interesting to hear how you go. Good luck

  4. Good luck.
I am trying to reduce sugar, particularly added sugar. The natural sugars in fruit and vegetables I don't worry about.

  6. I remember seeing something in the news about sugar being the actual villian in our diets, and not so much the salt and fat that we've been told for years were the problem. I'm going to have to take a close look at how much sugar I've been eating. I'm very impressed that you are making this big change, and look forward to seeing how it goes for you.

    1. Too much salt and fat is bad too Jenny. I only came across this video by chance and decided to do something about it. Today is day 5 for me so it’s early days yet but my body is already feeling withdrawal symptoms but hopefully they will soon pass.

  7. I stopped taking sugar many years ago. Wondering if that's why I am reasonably healthy.

  8. I have one spoonful of sugar in every hot drink I consume. I like it and I am not going to give it up. However, I wish you all the best in your endeavours Terry.

    1. Thanks YP. My reply hasn’t worked on the old website so i’ve Changed the website. This one seems to be ok. This one seems to be working ok. Today is my fifth day without sugar. I don’t blame you for not giving up YP - it’s much too difficult. It’s not too difficult for me though.

  9. That's quite an accomplishment! Sugar is not easy to eliminate. It's quite addictive. I have cut down my consumption over the years and I really don't miss it. It took time and effort, but I think it's worth it. Good luck to you!

    1. Thanks Martha. I feel like I’ve improved and cut down the risk of having a further stroke. Children should be made aware how dangerous too much sugar is. Maybe they could have a special lesson to tell them. They could make their own choices then.

  10. Hi Terry :) Congrats on eliminating sugar! I'm not quite there yet, but the only sugar I consume is honey or pure maple syrup. When I bake though, I still use organic brown sugar, none of the bleached stuff...one day I'd love to give it up, but I'm working on it day by day!
