Thanks for the warning Terry. I'm too sensitive for this kind of thing. I know it goes on, but it really affects me and I keep the pain of others with me for a long time.
I cannot watch. It would stay with me, and haunt me, particularly because I can do nothing about it. I wish I knew where kindness has gone. It is in short supply. World wide.
I was shocked watching it. Seemed like something out of David Copperfield with different period clothes. I feel so sorry for the two and the end that they were driven to. I just want to say to her, get in a car and leave.
My own little sister took her life when she was 40. She had cancer and was unable to work. The doctors didn't offer treatment due to her inability to pay much, and she was told to apply to the county for medical and welfare help by the doctor office staff. My mother took her to the welfare office in the California county they lived in. They waited hours. When they were called to the counter, the Mexican lady at the counter spoke only Spanish so they had to wait until an interpreter came to relay information in English (this is America in 2010?) and my sister was told they would only make an appointment for her for the following month! This is while they witnessed all the hispanic people there receiving welfare and food stamp benefits on the spot. My 80 year old mother was so mad she walked out with my sister and tried to help her find a source of funding for medical treatment, but my sister overdosed and ended the mess she was in. My sister was a minority herself being half Japanese so don't think this is a "Whites against minorities" thing. It is just the total incompetence of welfare systems that have run amuck and overwhelmed with immigrants.
I watched it and it was horrible. I actually don't blame the kids who perpetuated this horrific torture on the Pilkingtons, I blame it on the parents of those kids. They learned that this behavior is OK. Shame on the police chief, especially for refusing to help. I hope that he was severely reprimanded for his lack of leadership to uphold the law and protect the innocents.
It's hard to believe that in our knowledgeable society people still behave like barbarians while the police are turning the other way.... Where was the Queen in all this? Did she condemned the indifference of the chief of police's lack support for this poor mother and daughter?
I refuse to believe that all of England was like this 10 years ago. Maybe in some slum areas where people have little hope of a better life, then maybe I'm naive. Hugs, Julia
I had to cope with mouthy kids and a police force that wouldn't help. It was a lawless society 10 years ago. That's how kids behaved. They were protected and carried on acting like they did. Tony Blair and his government thought they were just harmless kids, they were anything but that. They were untouchable.
Do not watch if you are upset by scenes orf violence!
ReplyDeleteThat's really sad.
ReplyDeleteIt went on everywhere. We lived in a free-for-all society. Respect for your neighbours was non-existent.

ReplyDeleteKids were untouchable back then. There was no law and order.
DeleteTheir behavior was despicable. How can people do that to other people?
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this, Terry. We all need to be aware.
That's what living in England was like 10 years ago.

ReplyDeleteI don't blame you for not watching it.it's evil personified. It's what happens when kids rule the roost.

That's why I would've voted for Donald Trump. He wants to change society for the better. He gets criticised for everything he does and it's not fair.

DeleteThis is awful. I had to skip a couple of scenes because it was hard to watch. People can be so cruel :(
