Blogging...

Blogging has become an important way of life for many people. Everyday, there are blogs being written and read about subjects so diverse that it would take an age to mention them all. Some blogs NEVER get read and are written by authors who couldn’t care less if nobody ever saw them. Despite that, most blogs are written in the hope that at least one person will read it. We all like to be noticed.
One day you’ll notice that you’ve got 30 comments on your blog but nobody seems to realise that you’ve had to write 30 comments on other peoples’ blogs to get them to write to you. Before you know it, you’ve become a real blogger. You have to put off what jobs you used to have in order to make sure your blog is successful.

There’s a lot of work involved. You might think that it’s easy to write a blog but it takes a lot of thought and dedication. Some people get, naturally, frustrated by it all. What i‘d really like to see is a blog about disability being written by a disabled person. i’ve tried to.write about the many things a disabled person has to put up with as he goes through his daily life. The blog i want to read has to be done by somebody who is disabled though. I mean, you wouldn’t expect a meat eater to write a blog about vegetarianism, would you?

There are many blogs which have been started and then abandoned because nobody has left a comment for you to reply to. To get more active you need to visit more blogs and leave a message for them to show them how keen you are on their work. To get regular viewers for your blog you will need to choose an interesting subject to write about. Choosing something that interests you and other people reading about is half the battle. If you’re somebody who likes fishing then write about fishing. Somebody out there will share the passion you have for the sport and will love to hear about it. If you choose something that nobody is interested in then you probably won’t get a lot of followers.

Getting a new blog is a bit like getting a new puppy in that you won’t be able to leave it alone for five minutes. Remember not to forget about the rest of your life. Other people have and decided that the life they used to live was okay. They lose interest in the blog and don’t bother using it anymore. What was once a passion now becomes a burden. The blog is left to gather dust and soon forgotten about just like a puppy was a plaything at Christmas and is now surplus to requirements. If you’re clever you won’t ever let that happen. Just think - there’s a time and a place for everything. You don’t want something that you used to love doing now become a thing that you’re no longer interested in.

  1. Excellent analysis and advice, Terry. Sometimes I have thought I should do something different from what I do with my blog, but in the end I keep to what I can do, and what I want to do, because it's my writing outlet and I don't want it to become a burden to me.

I think you are doing an excellent job of writing for disabled patients from the viewpoint of a disabled person. I'm rather surprised there aren't more blogs like it, except that for stroke victims, especially, it can be physically hard or impossible to type. And maybe at the current time most stroke sufferers are older and may not have been using computers prior to their stroke. As those who are comfortable using computers continue to age and begin to make up a larger part of the number of people who have strokes, there may well be more blogs written by them.

  2. Blogging can be addictive. At intervals I step back from mine, and reconnect with a world away from a screen.
That said, I am so very grateful for the people I have met in the blogosphere. People I count as friends despite the fact that I have never (and probably will never) met most of them. They enrich and widen my world. I laugh with other bloggers, I weep for and with them, and I learn from them. All good things.

    1. Hi EC, it can be very addictive but I wouldn’t dream of expressing whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing. It’s none of my business.

  3. You've shared some great tips and valuable information. I remember when I first started blogging, and had no clue what in the world I was doing(lol), but over time it's evolved, and I love that I've met so many new friends who continue to enrich my life with lots of good feedback, smiles, and even frustrations. Hugs...and Happy Tuesday to you! RO

  4. Great post about blogging! I enjoy blogging but I have moments where I feel a little burned out..like lately. Then I just blog sparingly, just enough to keep my site alive. But I always continue to visit blogs of blogging friends to stay in touch. Interacting with others is fun and we meet a diverse group of people. And it's a great way to boost visits to your own blog. I comment on a lot of blogs, but mostly on the ones that leave comments on mine.

    1. The guy whose book i’m reading at the momen has days when he doesn’t know what to write. I can tell, cos I get days like that myself. This last post was like that. I definitely needed a rest from blogging. There’s a woman who has always hated me. I don’t mind that. In fact I think it’s quite funny when shouts help Ange! I csn’t even do anything ffs. Just leave me alone. I’ve had enoug of her, which is partly why i’m taking a break. She’s threatened to set the police on me. Go ahead, see it I care.

  5. I've been blogging for a very long time and it has helped me through some very tough times. I write about all kinds of things and if I can't think of anything I never worry about it. People will still be there when I have something to say.
I have thought about writing a disability blog but I think it would get repetitive very quickly....

  6. I had left a comment but somehow it didn't appear on your blog. This is the third time it happens, on this blog for some unknown reason. I'm not sure what happens to my comments. Sorry about that. I'm not ignoring you...
I think that blogging is therapeutic in a way because we get support and we also built friendships even if we don't venture out much.

Sometimes some comments can uplift us and sometimes they can can hurt us too. They are only opinions and has nothing to do with us the blogger and all to do with the commenter on how they perceive things.

I find that certain words in the title can bring more traffic to my blog because when someone searches for a specific thing on the web, it will bring them to your blog. Search engines are great tools to grow your blog.

I get tired of blogging too sometimes and announce my blogging break and when the time is right, I go back to blogging. I used to blog everyday at the beginning and bloggers were very keen to blog everyday too but one by one they eventually quit but for some reason, I'm still blogging but only now and then.

If you have a passion for something, blogging is easier.

Your blog is very informative so I hope you continue blogging. I've learned a lot about the challenges disable people face everyday.
    Hugs, Julia

    1. Hi Julia, I always look forward to reading your comments. It definitely helps if you have a passion or if you know someone who is disabled. It affects you personally then. Disability is a big subject and it affects us all in one or another. I’m sorry you had trouble posting because that happened to me too. I had nothing to do with it. Thanks for being so patient.

  7. Hi Terry :) I agree with this. I have been blogging off and on since 2007. It became a chore for me and I'd write blog posts that even bored me lol...so I stopped between 2011 and 2014. Now though, I'm very much enjoying it, it's a pleasure for me. And you're right, if you want followers, it's important to interact with other bloggers. But for me, again, it's a pleasure. Some people write comments solely for the number of followers they can get. You can tell by the comments that it's all business. I do love reading comments myself, so I give that back to the bloggers I like too. :)

  10. I've been blogging for 12 years now. Along the way I've "met" some wonderful people...and some, sadly, are no longer of this world. I'm grateful for and to those who follow my blog and take time out of their day to respond. I write because I enjoy writing. My hope is the reading of my articles are enjoyable and interesting to those who read them.
