The biggest difference to me is being understood. It’s my problem but i still see it as a problem. You can’t use your speech maker whenever you want to because it just doesn’t work like that. I wish it did. Jenny’s dad must have had worse problems being understood than i’ve ever faced. You just give in sometimes. The ever increasing volume of what goes on around you puts paid to anything you can say. Why should you expect quiet in a world that’s so used to noise?
I have always thought that everything and everybody is so loud and noisy that some of us really have to work to make others know that we are here and what we have to say might just be important. I can understand that, for you, it is a constant struggle. But, keep up the good fight, my man. Someone will hear you and, more importantly, listen.
ReplyDeleteIt IS a constant struggle. You can only hope it gets better.
DeleteYes the world is a noisy place, especially at my gigs. I can't hear a word anyone is saying to me. It's a strange world. It must be hard for you.
ReplyDeleteIf The Nolan’s are playing they’re probably asking you to turn it down. It’s
DeleteIt's definitely a problem when we cannot be heard or understood. Dad was lucky that he could actually still talk after his stroke (it was in the opposite half of his brain from yours) but there was another fellow in his nursing home who had lost his speech and it was clear how frustrating it was.
ReplyDeleteHi Jenny, it’s a problem that I have to put up with everyday. The pain I feel is something I just get on with. There is definite pain though. It has gotten worse.
DeleteNoise is a pollutant often.
ReplyDeleteI do empathise with your frustrations. My mother had difficulty speaking (and being understood) for quite a while.
Hi EC, not being understood is terrible.
DeleteGood point, Terry.
ReplyDeleteAnd too many just don't listen, anyway - no matter what (except to their own voices)...It's a Catch-22...between a rock and a hard place. I can't imagine how frustrating it is for you...to a point, I can...but only to a point.
Hi Lee, it takes a good imagination.
DeleteHi Terry! Sorry I haven't been commenting as much. I've really been at a loss for words.
ReplyDeleteThis truly is a noisy word, isn't it? Sometimes I need complete silence just to relax.
Being understood is a very important thing. It can be quite frustrating when your message does not get through.
There is definitely pain when you can't be heard. It's like being invisible. Even if you learned sign language, the majority wouldn't understand any way. I can't imagine how awful this must be for you.
ReplyDeleteI can see that a talk aid device has it's limitations.

(Today, we are celebrating Canada's 151 birthday. )
