At the residential home i live at there are 17 people who live here.
in some ways i’m lucky in that i there wasn’t disabled until later in life.
Everybody here has a brain injury. I like to think i’m the most sane though.
This is a small section of society that if you multiply by a thousand times you’d begin to see how diverse disability is.
19% of the population of Britain is actually disabled.
I’m the type of disabled person who needs to be looked after.
it doesn’t matter how many books i read and that i write a blog.
i will be like this until i die.
Disability most definitely doesn't fit into the one size fits all category. Nor do our needs. I really, really hope that the care that you need is always available. With a smile.
ReplyDeleteYes, there are all kinds of disabilities. Some that aren't even recognized by society at large yet, like the inability to think and discern facts versus fiction . . .
ReplyDeleteI don't know if disability is any easier when you're older compared to younger. My dad was 76 when he had his paralyzing stroke, and he struggled every single day after that with not being able to walk. I expect you know exactly what I mean.
Terry, the fact that you are now disabled is really sad and like you said there a diversity of disabilities out there. I've never met you in person but by reading your blog posts, I can realize that your disabilities are affecting you deeply.
ReplyDeleteI know that you need help with getting around, but I'm not sure of what you can do for yourself. Could you tell us what you can't do for yourself and what you can do. It's very obvious to me that you can think and reason for yourself, you seem to have a good knowledge of how to handle the computer, probably a lot better than me, you obviously can read well and communicate well on the computer. These things I know but what I don't know is all the things that you can no longer do for yourself on a daily basis.
